HIMACHAL PRADESH, the region of eternal snow peaks, encompasses regions of great diversity, both on the cultural and the natural level. In the south, the Himalayan foothills have deep lush valleys, like those of Kullu or Kangra, surrounded by peaks that sometimes go over 6000m of altitude. Habited in majority by Hindus, these valleys are resplendent with temples and natural sanctuaries. In this region, you will also find Shimla, which was in the past the capital of British during summer, and Manali, a hill station adopted by the Hippies for the nonchalance of its inhabitants and its charas (hashish), The south is separated from the north by the imposing principal the Himalayas chain above which extend Lahoul and Spiti. Close to Tibet, these regions where Buddhists of Tibetan origin live have some of the oldest monasteries of the Tibetan world.Though most of the ride covers asphalt roads but given the topography of Himachal Pradesh, we are likely to cross rocky and sandy terrain, so we expect our participants to have a penchant for adventure. We expect the riders to have an experience with biking.

AT MANALI. (2050 M / 6765 FT)
Arrive Manali in the morning. Post breakfast we’ll hold a briefing to cover safety precautions, touring style, road conditions, and check of personal equipment, with time to select our bikes and become familiar with starting procedures, control layouts and bike handling. We will have a trial riding day exploring near by places of Manali. Since the beginning of time Kullu Valley has been known as ‘The Valley of the Gods’. We enjoy one of the most spectacular days of motorcycle touring anywhere in the world today as we run the cliff hanging highway along almost vertical walls of jungle and cascading waterfalls of the Beas River Valley.
The ride from Manali to Gushaini is straight out of a picture book. The apple blossoms, the giant snowy peaks, with a sense of peace about them, sometimes lost in the clouds, so much like Shiva in repose… and of course the Beas River. That chortling, bubbling, terribly mischievous friend of the riders – the best companion ever on the Kullu-Manali stretch – meandering around a boulder, sensuously curving with a hairpin bend on the road, now temptingly close, and then mysteriously aloof and far away. We continue further to But tunnel and than divert our way inside the Seraj valley to wards Gushaini, a small village on the banks of Tirthan River.
After breakfast it’s time to kickoff your motorcycle journey into Kinnaur, Spiti & Lahoul. You’ll be leaving Seraj Valley and riding up to Jalori Pass (3120 M) and further riding up to the Hindustan-Tibet Highway (NH-22) towards Rampur. We will visit the famous ancient sun temple at Nirath a small town on the highway. We leave the NH-22 at Jeori, from where an 18 Km road winds up the mountain to Sarahan, home to the legendary Bhimakali temple, dedicated to the mother goddess Bhimakali, presiding deity of the rulers of former Bushahr State.
Today’s ride is comparatively short but challenging nonetheless. Back-tracking till Jeori, you’ll take the NH-22 again towards Kinnaur. Riding along the fierce Sutlej river flowing angrily in the gorges below you’ll reach Karchham. At this turning point, a road continues towards Spiti and another turns towards the Baspa Valley and on to the beautiful village of Sangla. This is another 18 km stretch of narrow winding road with hair-raising gorges & cliffs high above the Baspariver gushing below.
After enjoying a quite morning in the lap of Sangla valley you’ll saddle-up once again, first for a short ride to Chitkul, another quaint village in the Baspa Valley. Chitkul is the last village on this road towards border with Tibet (China) and offers great views of snow clad peaks of the Kinnaur region. After spending a little time here you’ll return to Sangla for lunch and shortly afterwards leave for our next destination, Kalpa. Again backtracking to the NH-22 at Karchham you’ll continue on the road towards RecongPeo, nestled 7 km above which is the village of Kalpa.
KALPA – NAKO LAKE (3662 M / 12085 FT) (115 KMS / 3 – 4 HRS).
As you ride further up the Hindustan-Tibet highway, the mountain landscape starts to change from green to rocky & barren. Still riding along the Sutlej you’ll reach Spello where your permits will be checked at a Police check-post. Another 35 km ride will bring you to Khab, a small village at the confluence of the Spiti& Sutlej rivers. Leaving Sutlej, from this point on you’ll be riding along the Spiti river to reach Nako, a village situated near the small but beautiful Nakolake (3660 M). This is first of the many high altitude lakes visited by you on this tour. The location of this village is remote & infrastructure is basic.
Today’s ride will take you further up into higher mountains (& across the infamous “MalingNala”, your first major water crossing) and down to Chango where you’ll enter Spiti Valley. We will visit the TaboMonastery. After having lunch at a restaurant nearby we will further ride to Dhankhar, the ancient palace of Spiti on the top of the cliff after visiting the Palace we ride further to Kaza.
KAZA – KI – KIBBER – KAZA. (50 KMS ROUND TRIP)
Today we ride to visit Ki Monastery &Kibber village situated at a height of 4205 M / 13890 FT the highest situated village which is connected by motor able road and have its own polling stations at the time of election.
KAZA – KUNZUM LA (4550 M / 15020 FT) – CHANDRATAL. (4270 M / 14090 FT) (100 KMS / 3 – 4 Hrs)
Continuing up the Spiti Valley & further into higher Himalayas, today you’ll arrive at the High Altitude Lake on your tour. After crossing the high pass (Kunzum La, 4550 M) and a couple of streams (glacier melts) you’ll reach the beautiful & desolate lake of Chandra Taal (4270 M). A “chilling” yet “intriguing” experience, nevertheless.
CHANDRATAL – ROHTANG LA(3980 M / 13135 FT) – MANALI ((2050 M / 6765 FT) (150 KMS
Continuing up the Spiti Valley & further into Lahoul Valley, We gradually start going up the zigzag road to climb Rohtang La 3980 M. After crossing the Rohtang La we descend down to Manali the town which gets maximum number of honey moon couple.
